Houston Rockets Rumors: Rajon Rondo Trade For Jeremy Lin, Omer Asik Over Carmelo Anthony In Free Agency?

Jun 16, 2014 08:32 AM EDT

The Houston Rockets are looking to make big moves this offseason and the team has been mentioned in Rajon Rondo trade rumors and Kevin Love trade rumors and now that the finals are over, the team can start looking at what moves to make and they likely need to trade Jeremy Lin and Omer Asik for any chance at getting those guys and the team is also shaping up to target Carmelo Anthony this summer.

The Rockets were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs and the team is trying to create a Big 3 with Dwight Howard and James Harden and they feel they have a chance to get one of these major names. Anthony is a free agent target and they will need to make trades for any chance at getting him, while Pro Basketball Talk reports that the team may not have enough to trade for Love. The team has Asik and Lin, but they are making a ton of money and may not be able to get moved in that deal and that could put Daryl Morey in a tough spot.

Morey has long wanted Rondo and the teams nearly had a deal last year but he did not want to put Chandler Parsons in that deal and now he may have to if he wants to get it done. The Rockets feel that they are one piece away from being a championship contender and they are likely moving Lin or Asik this summer to try and get Love, Rondo or Anthony. The team thinkd

Anthony would fit perfectly alongside Howard and that is why they are trying to go after him if he opts out of his contract with the Knicks.

The Rockets went 54-28 last season and got upset by the Blazers in the playoffs and now Morey will be looking to keep things going this year as he builds around Howard and Harden together in year two of that duo. Getting Howard was step one and now the team needs to add another star while also getting better on defense. Rondo looked good after coming off of a serious injury and he played in 30 games for the Celtics after coming back and he looks recovered and ready for this season

The Rockets have Lin and Asik to move and that likely will not be enough to get another max player and that means a major decision on Chandler Parsons. Morey has to decide whether or not to pick up his option for next season and if he does, that means he is an unrestricted free agent next year, but if he doesn't he becomes restricted and that poses other problems as well. Morey likely will have to decline the option just to get things going and that means he could be on his way out, as a team could give him a deal the Rockets can't match. Morey loves the value he has in Parsons, who has developed from a second round pick and that is one reason he doesn't want to lose him. Morey loves Rondo and wants to pull off that deal and if he can't get Love or Anthony, he will make that his main focus. The Rockets have assets they can move, but Morey is going to have to get creative again. Lowry also could be an option if the Rondo deal doesn't work.
