NFL Trade Rumors 2014: Christian Ponder, Ryan Mallett, Kirk Cousins, Mike Wallace, Dion Jordan, LaMichael James Traded This Summer?

The NFL offseason is winding down and with training camp coming up, trade rumors will slow down, but NFL.com writes that comes names could get traded this summer, as players like Ryan Mallett, Kirk Cousins, Mike Wallace, Dion Jordan, Denarius Moore, Christian Ponder, LaMichael James and Andre Johnson all could be in the mix to get moved and the Miami Dolphins, Oakland Raiders, New England Patriots, Houston Texans and Cleveland Browns could be involved in deals.

The Cleveland Browns could be looking at a trade for Johnson or Wallace despite the lateness of the offseason, as they potentially are losing Josh Gordon for a full season. Cousins was a target for the Browns before they took Manziel and now he is sitting behind RG3 again, while Mike Wallace and Dion Jordan were mentioned in trade rumors earlier in the season with the Dolphins. James was getting shopped during the draft and everyone thought the Vikings would get rid of Ponder after they took Teddy Bridgewater.

The backup quarterbacks are an interesting group and so far no major names have been dealt, although TJ Yates was traded to the Falcons from the Houston Texans and that came after many expected Houston to get another backup. Ryan Mallett was mentioned the most of the group with the Texans, while Kirk Cousins, Christian Ponder and Matt McGloin all have come up as possibilities. This late in the offseason means it's unlikely that a deal will go down, but if injuries pop up later in the summer, trades could start flying.

The Browns previously offered a fourth round pick to the Washington Redskins for Kirk Cousins, but the team denied that deal during the draft. The Browns clearly don't need that deal now anyway, as they drafted Johnny Manziel and appear set at QB with Brian Hoyer. The teams with the backup quarterbacks have looked at keeping them, as they have rookie QBs and younger players and coaches like having a backup with some experience. That is one reason why the deals have been few and far between, as injuries could force a team to push a rookie who is not ready onto the field because of a lack of an experience backup.

Wallace is an interesting option since he is making so much money and if he is not traded this season, he could go in the future, as Dennis Hickey was not the man to sign him to that deal. The Fins took Jarvis Landry in the draft and that could help mitigate the loss of Wallace whenever that happens, if it happens. The trade deadline is early in the season and while deals do not usually go down this late in the summer, things could change if teams deal with injuries or want upgrades heading into the schedule.
