The British Open Championship has Round 2 Friday on the PGA Tour from Royal Liverpool on ESPN and WatchESPN and Rory McIlroy has the lead to start things off with Tiger Woods in the top 10 and Phil Mickelson will try and right things to hang onto the Claret Jug after winning last year.

McIlroy opened without any bogeys in the first round and he leads Matteo Manassero by one shot heading into Friday, but even McIlroy admitted his issues with the second round this year. Woods got off to a rough start with two bogeys, but he rallied and ended up three under and now he is in position to remain in contention through the weekend with another solid round Friday.

Woods was confident coming into the tournament after missing the cut his last time out and despite coming off of back surgery, Woods said he felt healthy and ready to play. Woods has won at Liverpool before and he also has won a major after coming off of surgery and he hopes to duplicate that this time around in England. Mickelson won last year at Muirfield and now he will try and get back into things after an up and down day.

Woods had rounds over 70 in his first two after coming back from his injury and now he had one of his best rounds of the year and the second round could be key if he has a chance to win this. Woods said he felt ready to be back on the course and he said that he felt no issues with his injuries after the day on Friday. Woods has been great in the first round like McIlroy and he has struggled in the second since 2007 and he hopes to turn that around.

Sergio Garcia had a solid day along with Jim Furyk and Woods was in on the leaderboard behind those names along with Jimmy Walker and Rickie Fowler as well as Marc Leishman. Adam Scott had a mini run after hitting an eagle and while he was not quite at the top, he came in at 68 ahead of Woods and now he will try and hand onto his number one ranking, as four players can take it depending on how the Open Championship plays out.

McIlroy is used to starting off fast, as he has done that a number of times on tour this year, but he has been unable to turn those into wins. At the British Open that would be a great feat after starting six under and taking the lead and he has been averaging under a 70 over the first round on tour this year. McIlroy has fallen off badly a couple times, including his double digit drop at the Memorial, but he also has been strong when not starting well after winning on the Euro Tour this year and his second rounds total this year are 15 over.
