Dallas Cowboys Rumors: Tevin Coleman, TJ Yeldon, Randy Gregory Draft Options With Dorial Green-Beckham, Duke Johnson?

May 01, 2015 02:46 PM EDT

The Dallas Cowboys could target names like Tevin Coleman, TJ Yeldon, Randy Gregory, Dorial Green-Beckham, Duke Johnson or Jaelen Strong in the second night of the draft, as those players could be options in Round 2 or round 3 after the Cowboys selected a cornerback in the first round and this comes as the Adrian Peterson trade is basically dead.

The Cowboys reportedly targeted both Melvin Gordon and Todd Gurley in the first round, but with both of those players off the board, they went for Byron Jones. According to ESPN Dallas, the team is likely to draft a running back in the next few rounds and names like Tevin Coleman, TJ Yeldon and Duke Johnson could be potential fits. The team let DeMarco Murray leave in free agency and the Cowboys previously signed Darren McFadden as a free agent to help take over.

The Cowboys have Joe Randle coming back as an option to contribute, but they likely want more depth at the position. The Cowboys did not want to give up draft picks to get Adrian Peterson and the team also did not want to trade up to get Gordon or Gurley. Gordon ended up going after Gurley when the chargers traded up, while the rams took Gurley with the number 10 pick in the first round. Johnson could be an option in the second round, while Abdullah also could be targeted by teams on the second night.

Yeldon is another player to watch, as he is coming out of Alabama and is considered to be one of the better mid-level running backs in the draft. Randy Gregory has slipped into the second day and he could fall into the third day depending on how teams view his off the field issues. Gregory dealt with some drug issues and that has pushed him out of the first round after many scouts graded him as one of the best defensive linemen in the draft.

While the Cowboys already have Greg Hardy, he will be out for a chunk of the season and they could look at Gregory as an option to come in. The team could great value for Gregory by taking him in the second or third round, as he was looked at as a potential first round pick. While Gregory has issues off the field, the Cowboys have already proven this year that those types of issues are no problem for them. Hardy was described in glowing terms by the team after he was signed and Gregory could be an option, as the Cowboys were one of the worst teams in the league going after the QB last season.

According to SB Nation, the Cowboys could look at drafting Green-Beckham if he lasts into the end of the second round or deeper, as he also was graded as a first round talent. Green-Beckham also has off the field issues, but as long as he can play football, it shouldn't be a concern for the Cowboys with Hardy already there. Green-Beckham has great skills and he comes in after putting up 59 receptions for 883 yards and 12 touchdowns during the 2013 season.
