May 06, 2015 01:18 PM EDT

The NHL playoffs standings has the Washington Capitals leading the NY Rangers 2-1 in the eastern conference second round and New York will try and pull a 2-2 series with Game 3 on Wednesday and this comes as the Chicago Blackhawks lead the Minnesota Wild 3-0 in the west after winning on Tuesday night.

The Rangers come into the fourth game of the series looking to avoid going down 3-1 with game 5 back in New York. The Rangers were the top team in the league this season and the Caps now have a 2-1 advantage heading into the matchup on Wednesday. The Rangers won 28 games on the road this season, which was the most of any other NHL team.

The Rangers could not muster a goal in the third game and the only score came off of a deflection that went in past Henrik Lundqvist. The Rangers need players like Martin St. Louis and Rick Nash to step up if they want to make another NHL Stanley cup run. The fifth game of the series will be on Friday back at MSG.

The other series in the east has the Montreal Canadiens down 2-0 against the Tampa Bay Lighting. That series has been a surprise and now the Lighting host the next two games and they already are up after winning both away in Canada. The Flames won over the Anaheim Ducks and now that series has the Ducks leading 2-1. The Flames won in Overtime in the game on Tuesday to get a win. The Blackhawks have been dominant over the Wild and they now are up 3-0 in the series after winning 1-0 in Game 3.
