OKC Thunder News: Will Houston Rockets Chase Kevin Durant In Free Agency? Oklahoma City Return Most Likely

Nov 06, 2015 06:14 PM EST

The Houston Rockets have almost completed their big 3 and they are hoping to land their final piece in 2016. The Rockets are hoping James Harden can sway Kevin Durant in leaving OKC for the Rockets.

The NBA salary cap is projected to jump to around $89 million in 2017 so it is likely we see Durant some form of 1 year deal in order to hit free agency when the NBA's television deal will take effect. The Rockets will attempt to sign Durant a year early with the help of his good friend Harden is a plausible scenario but if the Thunder have any form of postseason success Durant would likely stay with OKC.

The Rockets want Durant and so does every other NBA team with the salary cap space. For Durant he will become the biggest free agent since LeBron James and could command a huge price.

The Rockets would likely have to first clear enough cap space to make room for Durant however the outcome of the 2015 season will likely have more of an impact on where Durant goes then any salary could. The Rockets will likely have a lot of competition for Durant and this race could come down to who is the biggest contender who can give Durant the most financial security.
