Arizona Cardinals News and Rumors: Running Back Chris Johnson Suffers Fractured Tibia, Andre Ellington Has Injured Toe

Dec 01, 2015 02:21 PM EST

The Arizona Cardinals have suffered a significant blow to their offense as starting running back Chris Johnson has suffered a fractured tibia.

The Cardinals will attempt to see if Johnson can return either later in the season if not in the playoffs. If Johnson cannot return he will likely end up on season-ending injured reserve list however that is the worst case scenario. If Johnson can return this season he will have a shot at triggering a $2 million dollar incentive clause in his contract when he rushed for 1,300 yards.

So far Johnson has 1,184 yards which is pretty close with 4 games left on the regular season schedule. The Cardinals will now have to turn to rookie David Johnson as their primary backup and former starter Andre Ellington is suffering from turf toe and his return is more of a week to week basis. David Johnson has shown flashes of greatness all season long as he has already made some history at this point in the season.

DJ has become the first player in NFL history to score a rushing, return, and receiving touchdown in a single game. The Cardinals hoped David Johnson would be able to contribute as a rookie but it appears they will get a longer look at what he has to bring to the table as the starting running back.
