Tennessee Titans News: Michael Griffin Released By Team

Feb 09, 2016 04:07 PM EST

The Tennessee Titans finally released one of their longest tenured players, safety Michael Griffin.

The Titans were set to save $6.5 million by releasing Griffin and can now use that cash to help build an offensive line around Marcus Mariota. Griffin was a first round draft pick with the Titans in 2007 and was always a tough, dependable, safety in his 9 seasons with the Tennessee Titans. Griffin has 25 interceptions over 9 seasons and 900 tackles which makes him the 5th player in Titans history to achieve such a feet.

Griffin would now most likely be an affordable veteran/bridge safety for a perennial Super Bowl contender or a bridge player for a team looking to continue the rebuilding process.

After spending so much time on the Titans it is likely that Griffin would want to play out his final few seasons with a top contender such as the Arizona Cardinals who could use another productive safety, the Pittsburgh Steelers who are rebuilding their defensive backfield, or the Minnesota Vikings who could use Griffin as a powerful run stopping safety.

Other teams that may be interested are the Indianapolis Colts, Los Angeles Rams, Atlanta Falcons, Oakland Raiders, New York Giants, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Baltimore Ravens, and Jacksonville Jaguars.  Griffin should be able to catch on to a team this offseason.
