New York Giants News: NY Releases Jon Beason After Injury Issues

Feb 10, 2016 02:48 PM EST

The New York Giants have released Jon Beason after several seasons with the franchise.

Beason was one of the free agents the Giants hoped would turn around this franchise however that did not pan out. Beason was looked at by his previous body of work; he was a first round pick and expected to be a forceful cover linebacker.

In the last two seasons Beason has only appeared in nine games due to injuries and has only appeared in 29 games over the last 6 seasons. Out of 144 games Beason has only appeared in 93 of them throughout his entire career.

It was clear that Beason would never be as healthy as he was when he was drafted as he only played in 5 games this season and could only record 18 combined tackles in 2015. In total Beason has recorded 705 combined tackles, 4 sacks, 33 pass defenses, 10 interceptions, and 3 forced fumbles.

Beason went under the knife recently to have some repair work done on his knee, all the injuries have seemed to take a toll on the veteran as he has been said to considering retirement. If Beason can get healthy again there are a slew of teams out there looking for a solid veteran linebacker.
