Denver Broncos Rumors: Will Broncos Target RG3 If Team Loses Brock Osweiler?

Feb 16, 2016 09:48 AM EST

The Denver Broncos have not begun contract negotiations with soon to be free agent quarterback Brock Osweiler out of respect for Peyton Manning and that may cost them in the long run.

The San Francisco 49ers, Cleveland Browns, and Los Angeles Rams are all teams with enough cap space to lure Osweiler away from the Broncos. Osweiler should command a hefty amount in free agency and with the Broncos looking to hold together their defense they might become priced out of Osweiler's range.

The Broncos will try to retain Von Miller, Evan Mathis, Malik Jackson, Danny Trevathan, Ronnie Hillman, C.J. Anderson, and Brandon Marshall this free agency. They will likely use the franchise tag on Von Miller which will force the Broncos to choose a select few players to bring back for the 2016 season.

The Broncos are currently ranked 24th in cap space in the NFL and currently only have around $12 million in salary cap room. Osweiler will want to get the most out of this free agency run and the Rams and 49ers are likely the teams that will give the Broncos a run for their money in terms of the salary they can offer him.

If the Broncos lose out on Osweiler they will likely look to Sam Bradford or Robert Griffin III if available but will likely draft a quarterback in the mid rounds of the 2016 NFL draft.
