Robert Griffin III Set To Become A Heavily Targeted Free Agent

Feb 26, 2016 03:18 PM EST

Robert Griffin III may be a hot commodity by the time he hits free agency as several teams look ready to take a chance on the young quarterback. RGIII will have his choice of where he ends up, and these franchises could be the best possible situation for him. according to Fox Sports.

Los Angeles Rams: It looks as if the Rams will use a quarterback competition to decide their starter for 2016 unless they draft a quarterback with their first round pick. With Nick Foles, Sean Mannion and Case Keenum potential starters (two of whom started last season and could not hold onto the job), the Rams will need to find a player who can at least control an offense. RGIII would immediately have a second chance, because who would the Rams really turn to? The Rams need to continue to build this team (especially the offensive line) and could use their first round pick to do just that.

San Francisco 49ers: The San Francisco 49ers are already dealing with adversity, and the season has not even begun. Colin Kaepernick has requested a trade even though new coach Chip Kelly has stated that Kaepernick is happy to play for the 49ers. RGIII would be a blessing in disguise because the 49ers would not have to deal with Kaepernick's $11.9 million cap hit and would have a quarterback with the same skill at a more affordable cost. Plus after the last couple of seasons, Griffin could handle whatever weirdness comes from Kelly.

Denver Broncos: The Broncos could be missing their starting quarterback by the time free agency is over. This is barely speculation at this point; the Broncos must either franchise tag Von Miller or Brock Osweiler, and Miller is going to be the more expensive of the two, which means he will get the tag. Osweiler will get the best offer the Broncos can muster, but it is doubtful they would be able to match a team like the Rams in terms of cap space. The Houston Texans could also look to snag Osweiler, so getting some insurance for him would be the best course of action. RGIII could potentially be a cheap, productive backup quarterback, and with the Broncos' cap situation cheap is something they should love. according to Scout.

Houston Texans: The Houston Texans could use some competition at the quarterback position, and it could be a good thing to bring RGIII back to Texas. The Cowboys were rumored to be the next landing spot for him, so it would make sense that a team in Texas with zero starting quarterbacks would pick him up. The Texans could also afford to pay RGIII whatever he is asking, so there should really be no issues here unless Texans want to draft a top tier quarterback. The Texans will pick 22nd overall and will have very little chance of landing a top quarterback in the draft. This makes RGIII an even more tantalizing option for the Texans, according to the Washington Post.
