Arsenal Transfer News: Arsene Wenger Admits Interest in Cavani and Zaha, So Will the Manager Finally Spend Big?

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is not someone to reveal his transfer plans to the media, with the Frenchman liking to keep his cards as close to his chest as possible.

So, when Wenger admits publicly he is interested in a particular player, you know there is a deeper plan behind it.

The Arsenal boss admitted he is interested in both Edinson Cavani of Napoli and Wilfried Zaha of Crystal Palace.

Cavani was the subject of a reported £30 million ($48 million) bid from Arsenal Wednesday, and has been on the club's radar for quite a while now, although the Napoli man was always thought to be out of the club's price range.

Arsenal, however, are in a much stronger financial position at the moment, opening up the possibility of a huge bid for the player, with Wenger himself admitting he would be interested.

"Cavani is a player that I like," Wenger told reporters.

"Will he cost a lot of money? That's for sure. Nobody would deny that. Our banker lives just next to me at the moment and he is ready if we find the right player."

Cavani has a reported buyout clause of around £50 million ($80 million), but Wenger believes waiting for the right moment is crucial when buying a player in the competitive transfer market.

"The prices go always up at the start of the transfer market and go down in the last week," Wenger added. "Sometimes as well they go up in the last week, but it depends.

"Most of the time they go down in the last week and you know as well that 90 percent of transfer activity happens in the last week if not in the last 48 hours."

Another player heavily linked with Arsenal is Zaha, a boyhood Gooner, and Wenger said he was keeping an eye on the 20-year-old, although an offer had not been made. Manchester United are thought to be the frontrunners, with the league leaders reportedly already tabling a bid of around £6 million ($9.5 million) for the winger.

"We are looking at him, but at the moment we have not made any bid for him," Wenger said.

"I don't know if Manchester United are in for him. Anyway, if you call any club for any player, they will tell you Man United, Milan, Real Madrid are as well in for him, but it is always difficult to know if it is true or not."

So, a nervous yet exciting final week of the transfer window awaits for all the Gooners out there.
