Super Bowl Predictions: Ravens Win Close Game Says Rob Gronkowski (Tweet)

Jan 31, 2013 03:04 PM EST

Rob Gronkowski, tight end of the New England Patriots, predicted that the Baltimore Ravens will be the winners of Super Bowl XLVII on Sunday in New Orleans against the San Francisco 49ers. Not only this, but Gronkowski predicts a close game that will be decided in the final minutes.

"I'm going with the Ravens," said the best tight end in the league on Thursday. "It's going to be a close game coming down to the last minute."

Don't believe your eyes? Here's the tweet.

The 49ers and Ravens have very tough defenses. They also possess star players on offense. You name any player in any position, Colin Kaepernick versus Joe Flacco, Frank Gore versus Ray Rice, Randy Moss versus Anquan Boldin. Those are matchups anybody will pay to see.

The 49ers defense is highlighted by probably the best pass rusher in the game, Aldon Smith. In just his second season in the NFL, Smith finished with 19.5 sacks after putting up 14 in his rookie season. This past season he was three sacks short of matching the single-season record set by former New York Giant Michael Strahan who established the record in 2001 with 22.5.

Expect Flacco and the Ravens to need a lot of help as they will have to keep Smith away from the quarterback.

Another player highlighting his defense is Ray Lewis who will be playing in his final NFL game. He proved a little rusty after missing an easy interception against the Indianapolis Colts in the AFC Wild Card Playoff game, but expect him to place all his emotion and passion into this game.

Not that Gronkowski's Super Bowl predictions are up to par by any means, so 49er fans, don't worry. The best paid tight end in the history of the game was in the Super Bowl last season and, because of injury, he barely had an impact.

If anything, Gronkowski might be more popular for being the intended receiver on a pass from Brady that was intercepted by the Giants' linebacker Chase Blackburn.

The Patriots once again suffered a loss to the Giants in the Super Bowl and this year they lost to the Ravens in the AFC Championship game in a matchup that wasn't even close finishing 28-13 in favor of Baltimore.

The Patriots probably missed their tight end who was out with a left forearm injury. During the regular season, Gronkowski went for 790 yards and 11 touchdowns in 11 games this past season.

Their well paid tight end seems to have a knack for getting injured as he was hobbling around in the Super Bowl against the Giants after suffering an ankle injury last season.

Score Prediction:
Gronkowski wasn't so daring as to provide a final score, but we'll go ahead and do it for him. If in fact the match ends the way Gronkowski predicts, then the Ravens win 24-20 with a game winning touchdown with a minute remaining.
