Super Bowl XLVII was won by the Baltimore Ravens after defeating the San Francisco 49ers 33-31, but this wasn't the ordinary big football game everybody imagined. There were shocking moments and it surely became an exciting match filled with drama that entertained viewers.
Now, if you turned the game off and went to bed right after halftime or simply couldn't watch the game, you missed out on a good one, but we won't rub it in your face.
The Ravens took an early lead and struck first. Anquan Boldin caught the first score of the game once again proving his value to a team that might release him to make cap space.
The 49ers's team in general, both offense and defense, was off kilt. They couldn't get their run game started and Colin Kaepernick was also a bit rattled early on. The 49ers turned the ball over twice in the first half while the Ravens played flawless football.
By halftime, the score was 21-6 in favor of the Ravens. Joe Flacco, quarterback of the Ravens, was guiding his team and looking like a true champion.
Halftime
Well, if there are any accusations of lip syncing once again, Beyonce did a great job. What Beyonce did was bring back the halftime performance to the level of greatness that briefly existed right before the Janet Jackson wardrobe malfunction.
She didn't bring husband Jay-Z on stage with her, but Beyonce had her Destiny's Child ladies pop on stage and perform a couple of numbers.
There wasn't a lot of flash and dash in her performance, but her dancing and effects that were a part of her show made it as entertaining to watch as it was listening to her voice.
Power Outage
There was a brief snafu at the start of the third quarter. Yes, aside from the fact that the 49ers special team was still on break as they took the field at the beginning of the second half.
Jacoby Jones ran a 108-yard kickoff for a touchdown tying the longest return in Super Bowl history. At first it was 109 yards, which would have been the record, but after further review, officials ruled Jones took off from eight yards deep in the end zone.
Moments later, the lights went out. Not completely out, so don't believe the memes you see on all these social media sights. Half of the stadium was illuminated while the rest wondered what had occurred.
It took 35 minutes to get all the lights back up. Maybe Beyonce used up all the power in the Superdome?
49ers Wake Up
As soon as the lights turned on, the 49ers picked up steam. They made it a one possession game twice before the conclusion of this one.
With the score 33-29 and the 49ers at the Ravens' seven yardline after a tremendous run by Frank Gore, San Francisco decided to pass the ball three times after a failed run attempt right before the two-minute warning.
Kaepernick went for Michael Crabtree three times and on the last play Jim Harbaugh wanted a holding call on the Ravens, but the refs played it safe or didn't see all the contact that occurred in the end zone.
The 49ers held the Ravens after turning it over on downs and then on fourth down, instead of punting with 11 seconds remaining in the game, the Ravens took the safety and made the game 33-31.
That was the final score. The Ravens were crowned champions and Ray Lewis went off an NFL field crowned champion.
Both teams were talented and skilled, but in the end, it came down to who wanted it the most and the Ravens proved that early on in this one.
