The Carolina Hurricanes and the Philadelphia Flyers meet up for their second of three meetins between the teams this season. Caroilina is currently sitting in second in their division. Being two games out of the lead, this is a crucial matchup.
The Hurricanes are currently on a six-game road trip that could help determine their fate in the East. Having gotten off to a decent start, they need to continue to capitalize while they can. While Cam Ward struggled at the start of the season, he has regained his elite form. He has come on and only allowed three goals on 89 shots in back-to-back wins. Ward had started the season 1-3 with a 4.55 goals-against average. Hurricane fans are thankful to see him step it up. Eric Staal has points in seven straight games and will look to keep pace with that today. The team will be without Tuomo Ruuttu, who is out with a long-term hip injury, but other than that, the team is at full strength.
Philadelphia is on a four-game homestand, having one the first two before a shootout loss to Florida on Thursday. They have struggled with the shootout throughout much of the season. The team's all-time shootout record is 23-42, fewest wins in the league when the game is determined by a shootout. That could continue to hurt them in the future. Flyers' captain Claude Giroux has take a league-high 272 faceoffs and has won 55.9 perecent of them. Forward Wayne Simmonds is questionable for the game with a concussion, while Scott Hartnell and Andrej Meszaros are both out.
