The New York Jets are still wondering where they can send Tim Tebow as trade rumors continue to roar. The Arizona Cardinals could be willing to trade for a new quarterback, but instead, they look to take their chances elsewhere as Tebow doesn't seem like the right guy for the job in the desert.
Rumors have it that the Cardinals are looking at a guy who was moved due to Tebow's acquisition. Former Jet's backup, Drew Stanton has drawn interest from the Cardinals. Because of Tebow's trade last season, the Jets had to trade Stanton away and they sent him to the Indianapolis Colts.
To Stanton's dismay, Andrew Luck was everything the Colts expected and more. He took them all the way to the playoffs and Stanton was once again a backup.
Stanton, who's 28, had a successful run in 2010 with the Detroit Lions. He played in six games and started another three. He went 2-1, completed 58 percent of his passes, totaling 780 passing yards, four touchdowns and three interceptions. He even had success on the ground rushing for 118 yards an a touchdown on 13 carries. That's about six yards per carry.
This guy can give you a Tebow-like performance, but with the actual arm to throw without having to rely so much on the run.
As we have seen, the running quarterback has been having more and more success in the NFL. Three quarterbacks made a living in their first seasons as starters and they all functioned from the pistol offense; Robert Griffin III, Russell Wilson and Colin Kaepernick.
Here's Mr. Stanton using his legs and then celebrating a little bit.
Yes, he's doing the Dougie after rushing for the touchdown.
The Cardinals could use a boost in their running game and passing game. Because Stanton is more of a passer, a move to Arizona looks like the smart move. for Stanton and the team. Tebow needs a running back to become effective and the Cardinals don't have that just yet.
Larry Fitzgerald is also a guy who would suffer if Tebow is acquired. Yes, Tebow is a winner taking the Denver Broncos to the playoffs and into the second round of the AFC playoffs, however, without a running game, Tebow will not be an effective quarterback.
Stanton can make things happen with his arm. The Cardinals should also try to get an offensive line to protect their possibly new quarterback if they want him to have a chance to make a difference.
The Cardinals were last in rushing and total yards per game. They were also the second worst scoring team in the league averaging just 15 points per game and they were 28th in passing yards.
