Bubba Paris Charged: Former 49er Facing Tax Charges After Failing To File Federal Income Tax Returns, Ex-Niner Won Three Super Bowls As Offensive Lineman

Former San Francisco 49ers offensive lineman Bubba Paris is facing federal charges after failing to file income tax returns, according to the Associated Press.

The former standout for the team faced charges on Tuesday after the U.S. Department of Justice announced that Paris was charged with three misdemeanor charges of failing to file tax returns in three years, in 2006, 2007 and 2008.

The charges stated that Paris received a gross income of over $57,000, nearly $84,000 and almost $42,000, respectively, in each of those years.

The 52-year-old Paris lived in Discovery Bay in California and was a stalwart on the offensive line for the 49ers when they won Super Bowls during the 80s. He was selected by the team in the 1982 NFL drafts after playing at the University of Michigan, where current coach Jim Harbaugh also played.

Paris played nine years in the NFL, playing left tackle for the 49ers for eight of them from 1983 to 1990. He won the Super Bowl three times with the team while playing for coach Bill Walsh and blocking for Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Montana.

Paris last played in 1991 with both the Indianapolis Colts and Detroit Lions and currently works as a motivational speaker.

"As a speaker, the best way to describe him is that he has the sense of humor and anecdotes of Bill Cosby, the substance of Stephen Covey and the delivery of Les Brown," according to Paris' website.

According to SFGate.com, Paris's legal first name is William and he will now have to face a judge in Oakland in March to face his charged. He could be convicted and face up to a year in prison as well as a six-figure fine.
