Tim Tebow To Visit And Speak At An Anti-Gay Texas Church

Tim Tebow may have not gotten a whole lot of attention on the field, but off the field he continues to make headlines, with his most recent headline being the announcement of an upcoming speaking engagement at a controversial Dallas, Texas church.

The New York Jets' backup quarterback is slated to speak on April 28 during a Sunday worship service of the First Baptist Dallas, according to the church's website.

The reason why it's getting so much attention is due to the church's history, particularly of the pastor, who is notorious for extremist statements about Roman Catholics, Mormons, Muslims, gays and lesbians and President Obama.

Robert Jeffress of First Baptist Church Dallas gained national attention for his outlandish statements that include Islam an "evil, evil religion" and claimed that Muslims, Mormons and Jews are "destined to Hell" and Catholics represent "the genius of Satan."

Jeffress also gained notoriety for his statements about the gay community. According to ThinkProgress, following the speech where he endorsed Rick Perry in 2011, Jeffress told a media members that gays should not be allowed in the millitary because "70 percent of the gay population" has AIDS.

He has also claimed that gay activists are trying to hide "the link between homosexuality and pedophilia," according to Right Wing Watch.

Tebow has never spoken badly about any religious groups, or gays and lesbians, so it'll be interesting to see how this one goes.

Last Easter, Tebow spoke in front of nearly 30,000 churchgoers at Celebration Church's Easter service in Georgetown, Texas. And an AZCentral story about the NFL star's recent appearance at the Impact Church in Scottsdale, Ariz., described "an enraptured audience."
