Darrelle Revis and Richard Sherman are considered two of the best cornerbacks in the NFL and that is one reason why the two players took to social media on Wednesday to hash out some differences that have been simmering for weeks.
According to ESPN.com, Revis took to Twitter on Wednesday to respond to trash talk from Sherman, who was named All-Pro this past season with the Seahawks. Revis was originally responding to comments Sherman made in January and while at the Super Bowl.
"I've never seen a man before run his mouth so much like a girl," the New York Jets' star wrote on Twitter. "This dude just steady putting my name in his mouth to get notoriety. Sit down young pup and wait your turn."
Following that tweet, Revis wrote to Sherman that his business manager has more followers on the social media site than the cornerback.
Sherman took to social media just 20 minutes later, writing: "Don't need ya name ... Ur name will be irrelevant once u step back on the field bruh. Get ya picks up!"
Sherman originally started taking shots at Revis during Super Bowl week, when the Seattle Seahawks corner went around Bourbon Street asking people whether Revis or himself was the best cornerback in the league. Sherman continued to tweet on Wednesday, writing about the statistical comparison between the two players.
"One season u will get 8 picks.... But it won't happen anytime soon... I did it in my second season... So u have something to chase. Got off my flight to this hilarious convo. So I have 8 picks and 3 ff and a sack. My season stats looking like Revis career stats," Sherman wrote.
One of the earlier tweets from Sherman included a post from January that had a picture of his stats compared to Revis next to the words "Women lie, men lie, numbers don't lie."
"Sometimes the truth needs to be told," Sherman tweeted at the time. "Tired of the noise lol. Btw I am near the least targeted corner in the League. So keep the excuses."
Sherman is considered one of the best cover corners in the league, while Revis is widely considered by many in the NFL to be the best defensive back in the league. Sherman has put up some excellent numbers during his early career, picking off 12 passes in two seasons since being a fifth round draft pick, Revis has had 16 interceptions over his six seasons and has been a four-time Pro Bowl player.
Revis has been the focus of trade talks with the Jets this offseason, although the team has yet to decide if they want to make a deal with another team for the cornerback, who is recovering from a torn ACL suffered earlier this season.
Revis also wrote on Twitter to Sherman: "That's like you saying your better then Deion Sanders & since he's not playing no more he's irrelevant for what he's done. @rsherman_25." Revis also brought up Falcons wideout Roddy White, who beat out Sherman for a touchdown in the playoffs this past year.
Sherman is known for being a trash talker and an in-your-face player, as he taunted New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady following a win by the Seahawks during the regular season, call their offense a gimmick.
