Former Indianapolis Colts star pass rusher Dwight Freeney is looking for a new team this offseason and according to him, either New York teams would be an ideal fit for him, according to the New York Daily News.
Freeney, who was released by Indianapolis earlier this month, grew up in Connecticut and is eager to return to close to home if possible.
While on an a SiriusXM Radio show he expressed his hopes in signing with a contender. With that in mind he openly professed that he would love the idea of playing for either New York teams, giving the Jets' Rex Ryan some high praise for his coaching style.
"I actually know Rex," he said. "I met him a few times. Rex knows how to free guys up. That would be a good fit.
"A lot of teams would be a good fit."
The Giants would fit Freeney personally, too.
"I grew up a Giants fan, actually," said Freeney, who attended Syracuse University. "All my life. So that would be a dream. Wherever I go, I'm just going to give it my all."
After spending 10 years with the Colts, Freeney managed to rack up 107.5 sacks, and he was once considered one of the NFL's most fierce pass-rushers. But at the age of 30 and after only recording just five sacks last season, he probably won't be in the position to demand the big bucks this time around.
