New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez is remaining in New York and has placed all his focus on working on his rehabilitation from hip surgery.
Rodriguez said in a statement released Thursday:
"Right now I'm dedicating 100 percent of my energy and focus on my rehabilitation. I am conducting two rehab sessions each and every day in an effort to get back on the field and rejoin my Yankees teammates. I think we have a great team and I want to be a part of it."
Rodriguez has been tied to Biogenesis, the Miami-based clinic being investigated by Major League Baseball for allegedly selling performance-enhancing drugs to players. Rodriguez has denied any link to Biogenesis or Anthony Bosch, the clinic's director.
The public relations firm Sitrick and Company issued a statement on behalf of Rodriguez:
"The news report about a purported relationship between Alex Rodriguez and Anthony Bosch are not true," the statement says. "Alex Rodriguez was not Mr. Bosch's patient, he was never treated by him and he was never advised by him. The purported documents referenced in the story -- at least as they relate to Alex Rodriguez -- are not legitimate."
According to Yahoo Sports, Anthony Bosch, a self-styled biochemist seen frequently in Latin American baseball circles, distributed large amounts of human growth hormone, synthetic testosterone and other cocktails of PEDs to players who had been linked to steroids. The other MLB players named were Melky Cabrera, Bartolo Colon, Nelson Cruz, Yasmani Grandal and Gio Gonzalez.
The Yankees have declined all comment on the situation until MLB completes its investigation.
