Greg Jennings News: Miami Dolphins Uninterested, Will Green Bay Use Franchise Tag on Wide Receiver?

The Miami Dolphins are in need of playmakers to help their stalling offense. As the 2012 NFL season has now come to a close and trade rumors begin to run wild, the Dolphins have been linked to a number of big named wide receivers that are available on the free agency market. The team has been linked to the soon-to-be free agent Greg Jennings for much of the past month. However, Jennings is now reportedly unlikely to sign with the Dolphins after head coach Joe Philbin expressed not being a huge fan of Jennings.

The Jennings and Dolphins pairing seemed like a match made in heaven. Philbin is very familiar with Jennings after being the offensive coordinator in Green Bay for five seasons before taking over as head coach in Miami. Jennings had also expressed interest on his side in joining up with his former coordinator. He would fit nicely in the west coast offense that Philbin likes to run. Now, Bob McGinn of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that Philbin is not sold on what he sees in the 29-year old wide receiver.

Injuries could be to potential reason why a red flag has been thrown in relation to Jennings. He is one of the most versatile wide receivers in the league and could be a great route runner, giving quarterback Ryan Tannehill a threatening receiver to work with.

If a deal does not come to fruition with the Dolphins, the Green Bay Packers are now reportedly interested in using their franchise tag on Jennings. While many thought the Jennings' ship had sailed in Green Bay, the team is now showing interest again. A franchise tag would cost the Packers $10.4 million to return one of their long-time receivers. The Packers will have until March 4 to  decide whether or not to use the franchise tag.

Jennings amassed more than 1,100 receiving yards every year from 2008-10, including two Pro Bowl trips. He was limited to only eight games in 2012 with a nagging groin injury. It was originally reported he was parting ways with the Packers who would move on with Randall Cobb, James Jones and Jordy Nelson as their top receivers.
