Premier League Results: Gareth Bale to the Fore Yet Again as Tottenham Edge West Ham

Tottenham got Bale-d out yet again, as Gareth Bale struck a brace, including a last-minute winner, against West Ham to send Spurs to third in the English Premier League.

Bale scored the opening goal in the London Derby, before Andy Carroll, via the penalty spot, and Joe Cole gave West Ham a 2-1 lead.

However, Gylfi Sigurdsson equalized for the away side with 15 minutes remaining, before that man Bale again came to the fore, unleashing a 25-yard piledriver to take Spurs two points clear of Chelsea.

"It was a massive victory," he told Sky Sports. "We knew after the (Chelsea) result yesterday that we had a massive chance to get third spot. We deserved the victory.

"We know what we are capable of. We have scored a lot of last minute winners.

"We are confident that if we keep battling to the end we will score.

"I'm just enjoying my football. The most important thing is the team playing well. It is not about me it's about the team."

It might be Spurs that are staring up at Manchester City in second, with just five points separating the two sides, but without Bale, especially since the turn of the year, such a situation would not have been possible.

"Players like this are able to assume the responsibility in these moments and I think from the clips you're seeing, receiving the ball in midfield, taking it forward, being fouled, getting up and then just lining up the shot to score the winning goal," Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas said. "Tremendous, for sure."

Tottenham next face Arsenal Sunday, with the win over West Ham taking them four points clear of their North London rivals and Villas-Boas believes if they can get all three points against Arsene Wenger's men, then it will strengthen their hold on a Champions League spot considerably.

"We just have to keep getting points," Villas-Boas added. "We want to get the most we can get. Obviously the distance isn't big to second.

"We face Arsenal on Sunday and it is a big opportunity to build the distance to them and that is first on our minds.

"Our priority is to establish our position and hopefully get more comfortable distance to Chelsea and Arsenal.

"It's going to be a game full of passion. To put Arsenal seven points away is a better margin, but it is not finished. Seven points is not enough."
