Liverpool Transfer News: Alexis Sanchez Summer Bid Readied; Bender and Reges Also on the Radar

With the season pretty much done bar the shouting, Liverpool are already making plans for next year and are readying serious bids for Barcelona forward Alexis Sanchez and a defensive midfielder to help reduce the burden on Lucas Leiva.

Liverpool are currently 10 points behind fourth-placed Chelsea and are unlikely to contend for a Champions League spot with just 11 games remaining in the season.

After crashing out of the Europa League as well, despite a valiant effort, Brendan Rodgers has already started to cast his eye on some of his possible targets in the summer in preparation for next season.

Sanchez was a name that was linked with Liverpool prior to the opening of the January transfer window. It is understood, the Reds were interested in making loan move in the winter window but were rebuffed by Barcelona.

However, Sanchez, along with David Villa, is expected to leave the Camp Nou in the summer after seeing their chances diminished and with Barca expected to bring in new faces as they look to freshen up their squad.

The Chilean international would cost quite a large sum, however, as Barca will not allow the 24-year-old to leave on the cheap.

Another aspect that might make the deal a little difficult is the fact that Liverpool cannot offer the prospect of playing in the Champions League, and with the likes of Juventus and Arsenal also reportedly showing an interest, it might scupper the chances of a move.

Meanwhile, Rodgers is also planning on making a bid for a defensive midfielder with only Lucas the real option for the manager currently as Joe Allen continues to struggle to make an impact.

According to reports in Germany, Bayer Leverkusen's Lars Bender has been looked at while there remains an interest in Fernando Reges of FC Porto.

Reges was linked to Liverpool a year or so ago when Lucas suffered a long-term injury, and now the Reds could be ready to reignite their interest in the physically imposing Brazilian.

German international Bender would also be a good option, but again Liverpool face serious competition from the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United and Fiorentina.
