NFL Rumors: Jermichael Finley Refuses Pay Cut with Packers, Is Tight End Leaving Green Bay?

Jermichael Finley is the kind of player that is not afraid to speak what is on his mind. So when he is in the midst of contract negotiations with the Green Bay Packers. Finley is unhappy with the way the team is handling his contract and future with the Packers. In an interview with ESPN's Josina Anderson, Finley said he would refuse to take a pay cut if the Packers asked him

"I'd have to walk for sure, meaning I couldn't take a pay cut. Maybe I'd restructure if it's a deal that I like and it makes sense, but I'm not the guy that's just going to sign anything and let anything pass. I'm not that guy. Other than that, taking a pay cut or restructuring doesn't sound good to me at this time. I like my deal," Finley said.

Finley is currently entering the final year of a two-year, $14 million contract. It was offered as a short-term answer, so the Packers could decide whether or not to keep the inconsistent tight end without signing him to a big deal. His contract is currently the third-highest contract counting against the salary cap in 2013. On March 27, he is to be owed a $3 million roster bonus. If the Packers decided to part ways with Finley, they could save $8.25 million.

Finley is upset the Packers have barely spoken to him about the entire situation. He has not received a phone call or anything in reference to his contract.

The Packers are currently in the midst cutting their current payroll. They released Charles Woodson and will soon likely part ways with soon-to-be free agent Greg Jennings. It would not come as a surprise if Finley is next on the chopping block.

In 2012, Finley had a slightly down year. The 25-year old caught 61 passes for 667 yards and only two touchdowns. In his three seasons, he has 64 receptions for 2,485 yards and 17 touchdowns. The Packers could decide to hold on to the young talent if they see more potential in him. This could payoff for Finley in the end if the team decides to give him a long-term contract.
