The NASCAR Sprint Cup season kicked off in full swing two weeks ago at Daytona and the race on Sunday at Phoenix was just as exciting, as Carl Edwards ended a lengthy winless streak to take the checkered flag, while Danica Patrick ended up wrecking her car.

According to the Associated Press, Edwards had not won a race since Las Vegas in 2011, which is where the NASCAR schedule is heading for the next race. Edwards finished ahead of Jimmie Johnson, who took home the Daytona 500 for the second time in his career last weekend. Denny Hamlin finished third, while defensing Sprint Cup champion Brad Keselowski finished fourth after giving Edwards a push on the final restart.

The week in Phoenix went much better for Edwards than it did at Daytona, where he wrecked five cars over the event. Danica Patrick had the opposite results, as she had a fantastic week in Daytona after becoming the first woman to win the pole for the event and finishing eighth.

Patrick ended up in 39^th place at Phoenix after losing a tire on one of the turns and her car was smashed into by David Ragan after she herself slammed into the wall.

"When you lose a tire out of the turn, those are tough because you hit [the wall] more straight on," Patrick said. "That was a hard hit on both sides, but I'm fine. There was no real good warning. No vibrations."

Patrick is running on the Sprint Cup circuit as the first woman to run full time after participating in Nationwide over the past two years. She is dating fellow rookie Ricky Stenhouse Jr., who has won the past two Nationwide titles.
