Greg Jennings has been one of the most important players for the Green Bay Packers over the past few years, but after getting injured last season, the team decided not to franchise tag him by the NFL deadline on Monday, meaning he will be a free agent next week.

According to NBCSports.com, Jennings is set to hit the free agent market now after the Packers decided not to use the franchise tag on him, meaning the wide receiver will likely be leaving the team. The franchise tag would have cost $10.537 million, which was more than general manager Ted Thompson was willing to spend on the injured star.

The 29-year-old will likely have a number of suitors in free agency, including the Minnesota Vikings, Miami Dolphins and New England Patriots. Last season he missed eight games while dealing with a groin issue and he could bring leadership and veteran skills to whatever team he signs with.

Reports said that Jennings is looking for a $12 million a year deal, which is more than the Packers were willing to give. Jennings was one of Aaron Rodgers' biggest targets over the years, but he was passed over by players like Randall Cobb and Jordy Nelson.

Last season Jennings made 36 receptions for 366 yards and four touchdowns after coming off of a year with 67 catches and 949 yards. During his three previous seasons, Jennings made over 68 receptions each year and surpasses 1,100-yards receiving, including in 2008 when he had a career-high 80 catches for 1,292 yards and nine touchdowns.

The Packers may sit with their players on the roster, but there is a chance they could sign Wes Welker or Mike Wallace as a free agent to help with the loss of Jennings. Both players could cost a lot, but they are upgrades over Jennings.

The team finished 11-5 last season and lost to the 49ers in the playoffs after giving up a record amount of rushing yards to Colin Kaepernick.
