As teams try to lock players into their roster in preparation for next season, New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin admitted the difficulty of the uncertainty surrounding the future of wide receiver Victory Cruz, according to the NJ.com.
"I like to think that I can control everything, and that I can have something to do with making sure that something gets done that I think would be beneficial to everyone," Coughlin said today, before a book signing at the Fifth Avenue Barnes and Noble. "And certainly I believe that about Victor. We want Victor to be a Giant until the end of his career, but obviously he and his people, his agents, they've got to make that call. It's a little bit frustrating in that you'd like to have it done, that's all."
Cruz is a restricted free agent, and when asked if the Giant fans can count on his return in 2013, Coughlin said, "I think so."
Both sides have been working on a long-term deal to Cruz with big blue long-term. Negotiations were tabled during the season, and last month, co-owner John Mara said Cruz's camp was asking for too much money at that point in time.
The former undrafted free agent from Paterson set a franchise record for single-season receiving yards in 2011 by doing just what the Giants coach preaches in his new book, "Earn the Right to Win."
