Coach Dies In Freak Accident On Bicycle And Impaled By Gate As Students Witness Freak Teacher Death In California (VIDEO)

A coach and teacher from Rio Linda High School was killed on Monday night in a freak bicycle accident that was witnessed by students.

According to WVTR.com, Marion Adams, who was a broadcasting teacher as well as a football and track coach, was riding his bicycle home from work after practice and crashed into a gate near the school and was impaled.

"It's like a nightmare. I keep waiting to wake up, just hasn't hit me all the way," son Joe Adams said to CBS in Sacramento.

Marcel Brown, who is on the track team, found the coach moments later.

"He looked like he was going to be OK. He was nodding his head yes and no. I was thinking he was going to be alright," Brown said.

Other students also witnessed the accident, including freshman Jennifer Edwards.

"I was at the track meet with my friends and I seen it happen," she said.

Edwards said he was thrown off the bike before slamming into the railing and the gate went several inches into his stomach, which killed him. Following surgery, he passed away.

"He was a great dad, always wanted me to do my best, tried to help everybody he could," said Joe.

Many students and teachers attended a vigil for the coach and said they would try to honor him the best they can.

"I just think of good thoughts like when he was smiling and laughing," said Bobby Ellsworth. "He was a good dude. He really was."

He is survived by wife Kathy, son Joe and daughter Sarah and his two beloved grand-children
