NFL Free Agency Rumors: New York Jets Pursue Kevin Kolb Pending Arizona Cardinals Release, Brady Quinn and Jason Campbell to Visit Team

The New York Jets have been rumored to be interested in almost every quarterback during the free agency period. They intend on increasing the level of competition around current starter Mark Sanchez and are pulling in everyone for a workout . They previously signed David Garrard  to a contract but intend on bringing in five quarterbacks to training camp. Kevin Kolb is likely to be released by the Arizona Cardinals and the Jets are rumored to be interested in signing the quarterback.

The Cardinals quarterback situation is in limbo just as much as the Jets. They are expected to release Kolb before he is due his $2 million roster bonus on March 17. He could find himself signing with the Jets once let go. At 28, Kolb began his career with the Philadelphia Eagles as a backup. He has experience with Jets offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg who was previously the coordinator with the Eagles while Kolb was there. He is familiar with the West Coast style offense the Jets try and run. This gives him a leg up on other quarterbacks the Jets might have interest in.

The Jets owe Sanchez $8.25 million in 2013 but are still determined to add more quarterbacks to the roster. Currently, the Jets carry five with the likelihood of releasing Tim Tebow, leaving an open roster spots. At 28, Kolb serves well as a backup, but never prospering as a starter.  After being traded to the Cardinals in 2011, it was intended that Kolb would be the new starting quarterback, but injuries only allowed his to start 14 games in the past two seasons. Kolb never prospered into the franchise quarterback the team wanted. He had 17 touchdown passes and 11 interceptions with the team.

Kolb is not the only other quarterback drawing interest from the Jets. Former Kansas City Chief quarterback Brady Quinn and Chicago Bears' backup Jason Campbell are all valid options for the Jets. While the Jets plan to bolster the quarterback roster, they have yet to sign someone with abilities to be the actual starter of the team. All signs still point to Sanchez being under center on Week 1 of the season.
