Arsenal could be ready to bring in one Barcelona player, while missing out on another.
It has been widely reported that the Gunners are in the market for Barca par Victor Valdes and David Villa.
Arsene Wenger reportedly missed out on the signing of Villa in the January transfer window, with the Spanish club refusing to sell their player.
However, it is believed the Arsenal manager will renew his interest in the prolific forward in the summer, and is hopeful of agreeing a deal.
However, Arsenal could be in for a surprise, with Barcelona reportedly offering Villa a new contract. Villa's current deal expires in 2014, and therefore the 31-year-old would not cost too much for the Gunners, while his experience would be vital for next season.
Barcelona, though, are keen on keeping Spain's all-time leading goalscorer at the Camp Nou and the carrot of a new contract has been dangled, with Villa considering his next course of action.
A player who is expected to leave in the summer, however, is Valdes, with the experienced goalkeeper, who will have one year remaining on his current deal at the end of the season, rejecting a new contract proposal and saying he wanted to experience a new league and culture.
The English Premier League is thought to be his preferred destination, with Wenger keeping tabs on developments in view to a deal in the summer.
Valdes has given a fillip to that possibility, with the Spanish goalkeeper reportedly expressing his preference of a move to Arsenal, according to the Daily Star.
Wenger has lost his faith in Wojciech Szczesny and does not believe the young goalkeeper is capable of consistently performing at the highest level just yet. Valdes comes with a lot of experience, having won pretty much everything there is to win in the club and international game.
However, his desire to play for Arsenal should be taken with a pinch of salt, because the same claims were made about Villa in January, and nothing came of it - of course both players could end up moving to the Emirates at the end of the season.
Arsenal do need some experience in their squad, and Villa and Valdes, despite their ages, will fit in perfectly as Wenger looks to find that old magic touch yet again.
