Los Angeles Angels Trade Rumors: Rick Porcello a Target for L.A.?

The Los Angeles Angels need pitching. Anybody who denies this is foolish. Rumors have the Angels possibly being interested in trading for Detroit Tiger starting pitcher Rick Porcello. With the starting rotation they currently possess, Porcello makes more than sense, it's all about the Angels having a player available for the move and the Tigers agreeing to whatever the Angels offer.

Porcello is only 24 years old and he has four years in the majors. He has plenty of postseason experience, including an inning pitched in the 2012 World Series. When looking at the Angels' roster there's inexperience and question marks present.

Though you love Jared Weaver's stuff, his health is a question as well as offseason acquisition, Tommy Hanson. Both of these guys have postseason experience, but none in the World Series, which is what the Angels are searching for. Many thought they were guaranteed to enter the playoffs after acquiring Albert Pujols. However, though Mike Trout and Mark Trumbo had big seasons, the Angels didn't get enough to finish at the top of the A.L. West.

C.J. Wilson and Joe Blanton have World Series experience, with Blanton being the one of the two with a championship ring. He won with the Philadelphia Phillies in 2008 and lost in 2009. Wilson lost in both 2010 and 2011.

Porcello would be a quality third or fourth starter in the Angels rotation as Garrett Richards is the potential fifth starter. With Porcello in the ration, that means Richards can go back to the minors and continue sharpening up his skills as he proved to struggle last season when getting a chance to play consistently.

The Angels and Tigers have plenty of offense so getting run support shouldn't be a problem in L.A. Porcello has had troubles improving on previous seasons, but he has a load of talent that is bound to break out at any point.

In 2012 he posted a 10-12 record. Wait Angels fans, before you say you're not interested, when studying his record, he lost a stretch of six consecutive starts, but he gave up three or less runs in five of these loses meaning he didn't get enough run support. In three of these loses, the Tigers only scored one run.

Porcello is young and has started 120 games in his four years in the majors. That's an average of 30 games a season. It will be interesting to see if the Angels make a move with the Tigers who might need reinforcements in their bullpen.
