Liverpool Transfer News: Christian Eriksen Admits He Could Leave Ajax this Summer

Liverpool target Christian Eriksen had admitted he could leave Ajax at the end of the season.

The talented 21-year-old Ajax playmaker has stalled on signing a new contract with the Dutch club, according to manager Fran De Boer, as he looks to secure a move to a bigger league.

The English Premier League is thought to be his preferred option, with Tottenham, Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United along with Liverpool linked with a move.

United and Arsenal have reportedly dropped out of the running, while City are looking at other targets, leaving Spurs and Liverpool to fight it out for the Danish international's signature.

Widespread reports suggested Eriksen would indeed leave Ajax in the summer, and the youngster himself admitted his future with the Dutch giants was in doubt.

"I have not got a definite offer of an extension, but my agent has had some talks with the club about it," Eriksen told Sporten.

"How it's going to look after the summer, I do not know. I do not know if I'm playing at Ajax after the summer."

Ajax are desperate to keep their star player at the club, but have privately resigned themselves to losing him in the summer. Liverpool are always on the lookout for youngsters, as part of their new owners' policy and Eriksen fits that criterion perfectly.

The playmaker has been in outstanding form this season, scoring 10 goals while also notching 17 assists to his name. While the quality of the Dutch league is not quite the same as the Premier League, there is little doubt that Eriksen will succeed in England.

Liverpool, though, will be hamstrung by the fact that they are unlikely to be in Europe next season, with Eriksen keen to play at the highest level.

Spurs are currently in a position to qualify for the Champions League, and if they do achieve that feat, they will be in pole position to land the Ajax man in the summer.
