The injury problems continue for the Los Angeles Lakers this season as reports suggest that forward Metta World Peace has been diagnosed with a lateral meniscus tear in his left knee.
World Peace was thought to have initially suffered a knee strain in Monday's night game against the Golden State Warriors, but upon a MRI scan conducted Tuesday, according to the Lakers Twitter page, the extent of the injury upgraded from previously thought.
As of now it's unknown whether or not surgery will be needed to repair any damage, but World Peace has been listed as day-to-day. The Lakers will most likely start either Earl Clark or Jodie Meeks tomorrow against the Timberwolves.
As the Lakers continue to struggle to hold on to the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference, there's much concern about the future of World Peace with the Lakers. New rumors suggest that after three straight playoff losses, World Peace may choose to opt out his contract for next season.
According to Scott Howard-Cooper of NBA.com, World Peace may be looking to void his contract by not picking up his $7.7 million player option.
In a move that would be so Metta World Peace, Metta World Peace is not ruling out the possibility of terminating his contract after the season against all logic, telling NBA.com he would consider the move in the summer if it meant he could remain with the Lakers longer.
With the chances of World Peace receiving a long-term extension from the Lakers looking very slim, the former Defensive Player of the Year still finds ways to keep level headed and focused on what's in front of him.
"It's too early to say. I don't know what the Lakers are thinking. I don't know what anybody's thinking. I don't even know what other teams think. I don't know what's going on because I haven't told my agent, 'Hey, go out there and ask around' and things like that. I don't know what anybody's thinking at this point in time. I just try to keep my game. I'm playing at a good level."
