The last time the New York Yankees went to Detroit, it was the during the 2012 AL championship series, where the Tigers swept New York in a four-game series. The two teams face off again as Detroit plays at home for the first time in the 2013 season.
The Tigers have made key offseason moves in order to become even better than the team last year. They acquired Torii Hunter to come in a play right field. He started the season off well with four hits in the team's opening series against Minnesota but has yet to hit a home run, something the team is banking on him being able to do. Fister gets the home opening start for the Tigers. He has made four regular-season starts against the Yankees, going 1-2 with a 5.18 ERA. He is 1-1 with a 3.94 ERA in the three times he has faced the team in the post season.
The Yankees got their first win of the season on Thursday night as Andy Pettitte went eight innings in the 4-2 win. New York is a much different team than the one that got swept in the AL Championship series, they are worse. Injuries have plagued the starting lineup, causing Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez, Mark Teixeira and Curtis Granderson to start on the disabled list. New York lost their first two games in Boston. The Yankees did sign former Tiger outfielder Brennan Boesch. Ivan Nova will get the start for New York. Last season he started 28 games, going 12-8 with a 5.02 ERA. Last season against Detroit, Nova posted a 10.97 ERA in two games played against the team, giving up 22 hits in the process.
