On the hill for the Red Sox, Felix Doubront who made 29 starts in 2012 posting an 11-10 record with a 4.86 ERA. He went 161 innings and struck out 167 proving he's a power pitcher and able to record a strikeout when he needs it most. The Blue Jays will send one of their newer acquistions in Josh Johnson to the hill. In 2012, as a member of the Miami Marlins, Johnson went 8-14 with a 3.81 ERA in 31 starts. He struck out 165 batters in 191.1 innings pitched after missing almost the entire 2011 season.
The Red Sox are coming off a series victory against the New York Yankees. They lost the final game of the series, but at least left confidently unlike the Blue Jays who lost two of three to the Cleveland Indians.
The good news for the Blue Jays is that they slugged the living daylights out of the Indians on Thursday, the last game of the series. Jose Bautista, Edwin Encarnacion, J.P. Arencibia and Colby Rasmus went deep, with Arencibia hitting two bombs in the game. The five bombs helped power the Blue Jays to a 10-8 victory.
Based on the pitching matchup, you have to prefer Doubront over Johnson simply because he's a power pitcher. The Blue Jays might be too aggressive and if Doubront can get them off balance, the Jays have the advantage. However, you have to like their lineup as many more days of multiple home runs and double digit scoring lie ahead.
