The Atlanta Braves will be without their starting shortstop, Andrelton Simmons, who is also the team's leadoff hitter. The Braves lineup provides a lot of power, so finding a leadoff hitter is a big tough in this lineup, however, the Braves will look for speed at the top and have found their leadoff hitter in B.J. Upton. Here's what the Braves lineup looks against the Chicago Cubs despite this injury.
The Braves batting lineup is as follows:
1. B.J. Upton CF
2. Jason Heyward RF
3. Justin Upton LF
4. Freddie Freeman 1B
5. Dan Uggla 2B
6. Juan Francisco 3B
7. Gerald Lair C
8. Ramiro Pena SS
9. Julio Teheran
The Braves will have B.J., who's 0-14 in his first four games in Atlanta, might find success in a different part of the lineup. B.J.'s lack of production hasn't affected Freeman, who's had a lot of success in the first four games of the year.
Subbing in for Simmons at shortstop will be Ramiro Pena, who was with the New York Yankees the first four seasons of his career. It will be his first start for the Braves. He is 0-3 in the year.
This isn't the first time Simmons has had a history with injuries. He played well in 2012, but missed time with a bad pinky. So far in the season, Simmons was hitting .176 with four runs and a stolen base. It will be interesting to see how Pena can play as a substitute for Simmons, whose defense is unmatched at shortstop. Hopefully, for B.J., the leadoff spot can help him get the bat going, but he shouldn't get used to it since Simmons is expected to return in Sunday.
