Darrelle Revis Trade Rumors: Tampa Bay Buccaneers Impatient with New York Jets Negotiations, Require Participation in Offseason Workouts

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have had a frustrating offseason and a marquee trade could help save the upcoming season. The team has tried to be patient with the New York Jets regarding a trade for their all-star cornerback Darrelle Revis. The longer the Jets stall to negotiate a deal that works for both sides, the more Tampa Bay is considering backing out of the entire trade all together. Yahoo! Sports is reporting the Buccaneers are growing extremely impatient with the whole thing which could lead to trouble for the Jets.

The divorce between the Jets and the New York Jets seems inevitable considering past history between the two parties, but the Jets cannot seem to work out a reasonable deal to get rid of him. As trade talks continue, Revis' agent has asked Jets general manager John Idzik if his client could sit out the first two weeks of offseason workouts while the team continues negotiations for a trade. Idzik said that if Revis wants to earn his bonuses, he must attend the workouts. He will be due at least $3 million in scheduled bonuses by attending the training programs.

Revis was trying to avoid being hounded by the New York media. He is also trying to finish rehabbing a torn ACL that required season-ending surgery just two weeks into the 2012 season. Questions about his health are playing a large factor in the Jets ability to trade him.

The Jets are requesting the Buccaneers give up their first-round pick in this year's upcoming draft in return for Revis. Tampa Bay has been pushing to give up next year's first-round pick instead. The two sides do not seem to be budging on their offers, meaning this trade might never get done.

At this point, the Buccaneers are the only team interested in Revis. They are willing to give the cornerback the long-term deal he is requesting which is reported to be in the area of $15-16 million per year.

The Jets are equally frustrated, more so at Revis. The team is frustrated at the unknown progress of Revis' knee and they are upset he decided not to use a doctor from Atlantic Health who sponsors the Jets.

If this deal is actually going to happen, it will be on draft day. If Tampa Bay does not like any of the available options when they draft in the first-round, they will trade and get Revis. If a deal does not get done, the cornerback can opt out of his contract at the end of the season and find a new team then.
