NBA Scoring Leader: Melo Leads Durant By .09 Average Points

Carmelo Anthony is leading Kevin Durant in the race for the NBA's Scoring title as he is averaging the most points in the league coming into Monday. Anthony is probably more worried about the playoffs, but if he wants to end Durant's scoring title streak, he'll have to continue playing the way he has this past week as he holds a very slim lead over Durant.

.09

That's the different between Melo and Durant's shooting averages. For a more precise number it's 0.093795 of a point. Anthony has turned it up 10 notches as he completely destroyed the NBA in the past week. He blessed the Miami Heat with a 50-point performance, then dropped 40 on the Atlanta Hawks. He followed these games up with a 41-point performance against the Milwaukee Bucks and then took it to Durant's house and scored 36 to help the Knicks defeat the Western Conference Champion Oklahoma City Thunder and win their 12th consecutive game.

Though it won't show up in the points-per-game average, Anthony is scores 28.4 points per game and he's played 63 games this season. That's 14 less starts than Thunder forward, Durant, who's tallied his numbers in 77 games, basically playing every single OKC game this year.

It's almost not just, but hey, you can't take anything away from Anthony's performances in the last couple of games. The Knicks are in the heat of a battle in the Eastern Conference as they look to solidify their playoff spot. They are fighting for second place against the Indiana Pacers, who are trailing the Knicks by 2.5 games in the standings.

The Knicks have six games remaining, while the Thunder play in five more games. It will come down to the wire as Durant will attempt to win his fourth straight NBA Scoring title. In 2011-2012, he edged out Kobe Bryant by .1 points per game in the battle for the leading scorer in the league. Right now, this year's race is even tighter.
