Frozen Four 2013: National Championship Saturday As Quinnipiac vs. Yale After St. Cloud State and UMass Lowell Lose With Full Bracket and Live Stream Coverage

The Frozen Four has been whittled down to two teams and Yale and number one seeded Quinnipiac will face off on Saturday for the national championship at 7:00 pm after St. Cloud State and UMass Lowell were eliminated in the previous round in two exciting games.

The Frozen Four this year was a historical one, as it was without any of the four big names, making it the first without Michigan North Dakota, Boston College or Boston University since 1969. Quinnipiac took down St. Cloud State in the NCAA semifinals 4-1 on Thursday, giving the team a chance to take on state rival Yale in the championship.

Jordan Samuels-Thomas was excellent for the number one seed, scoring a goal and adding assist for the 30-7-5 Bobcats, who are considered one of the best teams in the nation. Quinnipiac goaltender Eric Hartzell was fantastic as well, as the Hobey Baker Award finalist allowed just one goal and made over 30 saves to take down St. Cloud, who was 25-16-1.

Yale went to overtime for their game and won 3-2 to take down UMass Lowell to advance to the finals after playing the team in the semis and the team was excellent for the second half of the game. The 21-12-3 squad will now play the number one seed after scoring the winning goal seven minutes into overtime on a shot from Andrew Miller.

Jeff Malcolm was in net for Yale and was excellent and he needed to stop just three shots over the final 30 minutes as the team played excellent defense. Yale is giving a good name to the ECAC and they could be the first team from that league to win since 1989 and the team will likely be underdogs against Quinnipiac, but that is nothing new.
