Kansas City Chiefs Trade Rumors: Branden Albert To Miami Dolphins or San Diego Chargers As Left Tackle Absent From Workouts?

The Kansas City Chiefs have the number one pick in the draft and that is one reason why the franchise has put left tackle Branden Albert on the trading block, which is why the offensive lineman was absent from team workouts that started on Tuesday.

According to ESPN.com, Albert was not present at the minicamp after being given the franchise tag and he has planned on staying away until his contract situation is settled. While the minicamp was voluntary, the team had a number of players present, including Alex Smith, Jamaal Charles, Dwayne Bowe and Jon Baldwin among others. The team made a number of additions in the offseason, including by signing Sean Smith and Anthony Fasano.

New head coach Andy Reid was seen working closely with players and the team is still figuring out on whether it wants to deal Albert or not. The Chiefs may want to trade him to get back some of the picks they lost in the Smith deal and Reid probably thinks that they can get a legitimate replacement with the number one overall pick. The team is planning on drafting Luke Joeckel or Eric Fisher and both players are considered NFL ready.

The Chiefs went just 2-14 last season and Albert could be on the way out to someone like the Miami Dolphins, as they have the cap space to sign him as well as an extra second round pick that the Chiefs likely covet. Albert has a home in Miami in the offseason and since the Dolphins lost Jake Long, they are in the market for a left tackle. The Chargers could also be an option, as they cut Jared Gaither and may be too far up in the draft to get Lane Johnson or Fisher.
