The Utah Jazz need to win one more game and then hope the Houston Rockets can beat the Los Angeles Lakers in order to qualify for the eighth seed for the NBA Western Conference playoffs. The Jazz have been trying to play their best basketball in the closing days of the week. Just ask Al Jefferson who is two games removed from dropping 40 points on the Minnesota Timberwolves following a loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder that allowed the Lakers to remain in eighth place. Now, the Jazz will look to make up for all their recent losses as they take on a Grizzlies team they've only beat once this season.
If they lose and the Lakers lose, it's over. If they win and the Lakers win, the season is also over, which is why they have to hope that the Rockets come through for them. The Lakers are 1-2 against the Rockets in their season matchup. A Laker victory gets them the seventh seed as they pull into a tie with the Rockets.
In their last meeting with the Grizzlies, however, the Jazz were able to walk away with the 90-84 victory. In that matchup, just a little over a month ago, the Jazz had five players finish with double figures in scoring. Gordon Hayward had 17, Al Jefferson added 14, Paul Millsap and Mo Williams had 13 and Derrick Favors added 10 off the bench. That night they only had six turnovers and they will need a similar performance tonight if they are expecting to defeat the Grizzlies.
