The Washington Nationals travel to New York where they will face the Mets at 7:10 p.m. ET. The more exciting part about this game is the pitchers taking the hill as Matt Harvey, the young Mets right-hander faces the MLB's phenom Stephen Strasburg. Check out predictions for this game as two N.L. East rivals meet for the first time in 2013.
Never mind that the Mets are trailing the Nationals in the standings. The true focus here is that Harvey and Strasburg are going head-to-head. Unlike Strasburg, Harvey flew under the radar at the beginning of the year. Only active Mets and baseball fans knew who Harvey was when he made his debut last season. For the Mets, he's supposed to be Zack Wheeler's Robin, the John Smoltz to Greg Maddux. However, Harvey is now attracting national attention as his 2013 season has completely taken off.
So far in the year, Harvey is a perfect 3-0 with a 0.82 ERA that translates into two earned runs over 22 innings pitched. He has 25 strikeouts and six walks proving he has control and is a power pitcher, just what the Mets need in a rebuilding season. Harvey just turned 24 in March, meaning, if healthy, there should be a lot of healthy baseball ahead of him as a Met.
His counterpart, Strasburg, has a record that doesn't do him much justice. Though he gave up two unearned runs to the Atlanta Braves in his last start, Strasburg went five innings without giving up an earned run. He went on to lose that game 3-1 as he was outpitched by Tim Hudson. So far in the year, Strasburg is 1-2 with a 2.95 ERA which is pretty decent, it's just that the Nationals haven't backed him up with enough runs.
Who goes longer? What will be the final score?
Harvey will go eight innings while Starsburg will go six innings. Strasburgh's command hasn't been there at all this season, which is why he hasn't lasted too long in his outings. The Mets win 3-0 as they shutout the Nationals.
