Jon Hamm Named New ESPYS Host As ESPN Broadcasts NFL Draft First Round Thursday at 8:00 PM ET From Radio City Music Hall In New York

Actor Jon Hamm is one of the most respected performers on television and an avid sports fan, which is one reason why the star was selected as the host of the 2013 ESPY awards, which will broadcast on ESPN during the summer.

According to EW.com, the actor made the announcement on LIVE with Kelly and Michael and the show will be put on libe July 17 starting at 9 pm in Los Angeles at the Nokia Theatre. Justin Timberlake, Seth Meyers, and Samuel L. Jackson have all hosted the show before and it will be the first time the "Mad Men" star is at the helm.

Hamm is from St. Louis and is an avid Cardinals fan and is known for his love of sports around Hollywood. Hamm is one of the most popular actors in the game and his portrayal of Don Draper on "Mad Men" is a favorite of many.

"The ESPYS is designed to showcase the year's best sports moments in a sharp, fun and entertaining manner and Jon's the perfect host for this year's show. His appearances on shows like 30 Rock and SNL show that humor and creativity are two of his main strengths," ESPYS executive producer Maura Mandt said in a statement. "The combination of Jon's dry wit with his passion for sports will give fans a unique and original view of the year in sports."
