2013 NFL Draft Rumors: Manti Te'o Not Picked, Baltimore Ravens Likely Trade Up in Second Round for Linebacker

The Baltimore Ravens decided to draft Matt Elam with their first-round pick in the NFL draft. They decided to go with the highest rated safety instead a possible long shot at linebacker. It was highly assumed that the Ravens were going to draft Manti Te'o with their first-round pick considering their need at another linebacker. However, they felt there was no rush on him and went with Elam. As the second round approaches, it is reported the Ravens will attempt to trade up and grab Te'o.

Elam was a safe pick for the Ravens. They had lost Ed Reed to free agency were in need of filling the whole with a top prospect. Elam will pair well with Michael Huff in the back field. Despite his lack of height, he covers receivers well  while also being able to rush the box. With the safety position now filled, that leaves a linebacker for the Ravens in the second round.

The team has expressed a lot of interest in Te'o during the scouting process. General manager Ozzie Newsome has said the team is not concerned with Te'o's off-the-field issues and feel that he is a talented linebacker that could bring a lot to the Ravens.

Baltimore currently has the last pick in the second round. This makes their chances to grab Te'o slim. Many teams focused on defensive ends, making a linebacker a likely pick in the second round. The Ravens' website suggests that the team is considering a trade up in the second round. They will wait and see how the first set of picks unfold and if Te'o remains on the board, Baltimore will not hesitate to make a move for him.

Te'o will not see the third round. Despite his struggles at the combine and his issues off-the-field, a team will take a chance on him. While plenty of quality linebackers remain in Kevin Minter or Arthur Brown, the Ravens have spent a lot of time with Te'o. Assistant General Manager Eric DeCosta sad there are "20 to 30 players" the team is now targets and a trade is likely. Expect them to make a move for the linebacker sooner rather than later.
