Since Memphis Grizzlies center Marc Gasol was named the NBA's Defensive Player of the Year, there has been no shortage of critics about the voting process.
Los Angeles Lakers center Dwight Howard has voiced out that he felt Oklahoma City Thunder center Serge Ibaka was robbed for the award this year. After Howard, San Antonio Spurs guard Manu Ginobili pitched an idea that instead of the media determining who gets these awards, that players should be the ones voting on it.
Now leads up to reigning league MVP LeBron James of the Miami Heat. According to the Palm Beach Post, James recently discussed his disappointment in this year's selection, saying that it "sucks" he came in second to Gasol for the DPOY trophy.
"It sucks," James said. "It sucks. It sucks." James was asked if his candidacy for other awards - notably the MVP - hurt his chances. "I don't know," James said. "It definitely sucks, though. Finishing second? Who wants to finish second?"
Was this his best defensive season?"Probably," James said. "I mean, I guard everybody on the floor. I don't know if there's one player in NBA history who's guarded one through five (positions). It's over with now, but that's cool."
James is truly one of the league's most versatile defenders, as head coach Erik Spoelstra has dubbed him the nickname "One Through Five", and was certainly deserving of the award this season.
However, the reigning MVP will just have to settle for his fourth MVP award instead.
No big deal.
