Digger Phelps Cancer Diagnosed As ESPN College Basketball Broadcaster and Former Notre Dame Coach Has Bladder Cancer

Digger Phelps is one of the most well-known broadcasters on ESPN for college basketball and news came out on Friday that the former Notre Dame head coach has been diagnosed with bladder cancer.

According to ESPN.com, Phelps has had surgery and will start on treatment next week near his home while trying to recover. The 71-year-old has worked at ESPN since 1993 and led the Notre Dame team for 20 years before moving on.

Phelps said that "he and his family appreciate your thoughts and prayers as he prepares for the 2013-2014 college basketball season" in a statement.
