Rick Pitino Fulfills Promise To Players And Gets Louisville Cardinals Championship Tattoo (Pictures)

Louisville head coach Rick Pitino has fulfilled his promise to his players, and went out and got himself a tattoo to commemorate the Cardinals championship winning 2013 season.

According to Louisville senior associate athletic director Kenny Klein, Pitino got an "L" shaped tattoo over his left shoulder blade. Despite the sharp-looking logo, it appears to say "2013 NCAA Champions."

USA Today once reported on Pitino's promise in the middle of the season that if they won the title, he would get inked up. Now what may have started off as a joke later turned into motivation for his team, and it worked.

"Our biggest motivation," senior guard Peyton Siva said after the victory, "was to get coach a tattoo."

Tattoo shop owner Adam Potts was the artist who gave Pitino his lifelong piece, after hearing about his promise and sending a letter expressing his interest to do the work.

"I was a little nervous," Potts said Friday. "I felt like I did when I did my first tattoo 12 years ago."

As for Pitino, he said he wasn't fearing the pain.

"It wasn't even close to the pain I had with kidney stones," Pitino said. "That was like an 'A' in pain, this was a 'C.'"

The Cardinals were among the best squads all season long, but managed to raise the bar once the tournament began. Pitino served as a great teacher and motivator throughout the entire experience and will have all eyes on what Louisville will do next season for an encore.
