Hines Ward Says NFL Not Ready For Gay Player After Jason Collins Comes Out, Mike Wallace and Lance Briggs Make Ignorant Comments On Twitter

Jason Collins shook the sports world on Monday after coming out as gay while an active NBA player and while the response was overwhelmingly positive, some in the media and other areas of sports made ignorant comments about him coming out, including NFL players Mike Wallace, Lance Briggs and Alphonso Smith.

According to NFL.com, Hines Ward is another player (former one) that doesn't think the NFL is ready, saying to Pro Football Talk on the radio that he isn't sure the league is ready. Ward cited the locker room and the way things are as a reason, although he said he had no issues with Collins coming out or any other player from being openly gay. Ward said he hopes that someone will do, but that he isn't sure about how much football is ready.

Many in the media saw the NBA as a sport that would be last on the list for a player coming out and after all the support from some NFL players, that seemed likely, but idiots like Mike Wallace keep that from happening. It shows a lot that Wallace had to backtrack and apologize after what he said and he is ignorant because he never realized his comments about "not understanding" homosexuality were hurtful in themselves. Briggs also made comments on Twitter and ignored questions about Collins' announcement, while Smith also made ignorant comments.
