NASCAR is known for its speed on the track, but Tuesday's tire test in Indianapolis was higher than anyone expected, as Jeff Gordon clocked in at 214 Mph following a 212 run from Mark Martin on the track.
According to the Associated Press, Gordon was surprised at his number and said that all the cars were quick on the track on Tuesday before the weather started heating up. The 2.5-mile oval gave the drivers a chance to work their tires and they got to test out new environmentally friendly ones on the cars and the results were fast. The tires got some mixed results from drivers after issues on turns and Gordon and other drivers will be also testing on Wednesday.
Gordon said the test was good for his car and other drivers were happy with the performance as well. The NASCAR schedule hits Talladega Superspeedway on Sunday following an exciting race in Richmond that was won by Kevin Harvick after Matt Kenseth took the pole and Kenseth won out of the pole the previous week at Kansas.
